QueCreek Anniversary Starts With Groundbreaking

SOMERSET COUNTY, Pa. -- The high gas prices aren't keeping visitors away from Somerset County. In fact, members of the QueCreek Mine Rescue Foundation are seeing an increase in people wanting to visit the site where nine miners were brought to safety.Thursday, work began on the new visitors' center. It will be closer to the rescue site, making it more accessible.So far, the foundation has about $100,000 to get the project started but needs $200,000. Officials said they hope to get it through donations and grants.This Saturday there will be a special groundbreaking ceremony held for the sixth anniversary of the mine rescue. They will start pouring the concrete for the center.The event will get under way at 9 a.m. with a flag raising.
