ALTOONA, Pa. -- A mosquito in Huntingdon County has tested positive for West Nile virus and while officials with the DEP said it's not a threat, neighboring counties are working to make sure they're in the clear.Officials with the DEP said there haven't been any cases of West Nile virus in Blair County, but the type of mosquitoes that carry it are there. So they're teaming up with local officials to show people how they can help keep the population under control."Because mosquitoes breed in stagnant water, you need to make sure there isn't any in your own back yard," said Lynn Langer with the DEP.Langer said there are things people should look for like flower pots, swimming pools, buckets and even old tarps that trap water. Langer said even the smallest amount of stagnant water can produce a thousand mosquitos in one week."The key words are dump it, drain it, treat it," said Langer. While homeowners are busy keeping their houses mosquito-free, the county's working to make sure the mosquitoes that do make their way to the area aren't carrying West Nile virus. They've been spraying local parks and other recreation areas. They also set up traps. They're asking people who see them to steer clear.
