Grant Money Awarded To Somerset County Pipeline Project

POSTED: 1:21 pm EDT August 7, 2008
UPDATED: 6:07 pm EDT August 7, 2008

Additional grant money was awarded to an ongoing water project in Somerset County.

Rep. John Murtha, D-12th District, joined Somerset County commissioners, Pamela Tokar-Ickes, John Vatavuk and Jim Marker Thursday morning with the announcement of almost $2 million additional dollars for the Quemahoning pipeline project.

Murtha said the project is vital to Somerset County because it will help attract more people and new jobs to the area.

"You cannot have economic development in an area that is so old, with old pipelines and old sewage lines, without this kind of renovations," said Murtha.

Murtha also helped to secure $650,000 to connect Stoystown to the project, leaving just Hooversville and Reading Mines out.
