CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa. -- When Kongsberg opened up it's repair facility in 2006, officials said they quickly learned how hardworking and skilled our workforce really is. Now they have decided to make Johnstown the home of their new U.S. manufacturing plant. The Norwegian based defense company has been producing remote weapon stations since 2001. They are designed to keep soldiers safe by allowing them to stay in armored vehicles without coming up to shoot. The new 138,000 square foot facility in Richland employs more than 80 workers who produce the weapon stations for the U.S. Army. Thursday, Congressman John Murtha got a tour."The Johnstown work force is tremendous," said Greg Platt with Kongsberg. "They really do quality work and are concerned about the war fighter."For the army's first order, it bought 1,300 weapons stations from Kongsberg for $293 million.
