Commissioners Debate Housing Out-Of-County Inmates At County Jail

Wednesday, August 20, 2008 – updated: 2:36 pm EDT August 20, 2008

Centre County commissioners had a heated debate Tuesday over if the county jail should house out-of-county inmates.

Commissioner Jon Eich said housing out-of-county inmates will increase the possibility of criminal networking, while Commissioner Steve Dershem said there is little danger of that happening.

Dershem said the county should do what it can to increase revenue. The county receives up to $55 a day per out-of-county inmate.
