Rendell: Turnpike Tolls Would Increase Mass Transit Revenue

Wednesday, August 20, 2008 – updated: 2:49 pm EDT August 20, 2008

Gov. Ed Rendell appears to be moving forward with plans to toll Interstate 80 because, he said, no other lawmaker has come up with a better idea.

The governor was in State College for a luncheon on Tuesday and said the only way to generate revenue for mass transit and other projects is to toll or lease the turnpike.

The prospect of putting tolls on the highway has sparked debate across the state. Stay with WJAC-TV News and WJACTV.com for continuing coverage.
