ALTOONA, Pa. -- The Altoona Area Junior High School has been a work in progress for six years, but next Tuesday 18,000 students will head inside for the first day of class. On Wednesday, they got a sneak peek of what to expect.Wireless internet and flat screen T.V.'s are in every room of the new school, prepping students for the future, but they were already impressing parents on Wednesday. At orientation, students and parents were invited in to the new food-court-style cafeteria that showcases a brand new menu. The school is also now home to two university-level gyms and work-out facilities. While the Broadway-style stage and lighting in the auditorium is a great set-up, young musicians were already testing the acoustics in the super-sized band room. Also, the whole building is very green, with windows in every room and lights that turn off on their own, if people leave the room. There are also aspects of the new school that you don't see at first glance, like more than 60 security cameras that are keeping a watchful eye both inside and outside.Students will also be clustered into learning communities to make one big school seem a whole lot smaller. The first day the general public can tour the new school will be Sunday, Sept. 14 from 2 to 4 p.m.
