Clearfield County Commissioners Oppose Landfill

Thursday, September 4, 2008 – updated: 8:43 pm EDT September 4, 2008

Officials in Clearfield County are speaking out over a landfill proposal in Chest Township.

The county commissioners plan to send a letter to the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection detailing their concerns.

They fear a landfill could hurt their goal of promoting tourism in the county.

The commissioners are also concerned that a landfill could hurt the local water supply and increase traffic.

For several years, the commissioners opposed another landfill project in Boggs Township.

The D.E.P eventually denied that company's proposal.
