BEDFORD COUNTY, Pa. -- On Friday, Setan Company in Bedford County announced it's closing its plant in Saxton. The automotive leather supplier is winding down operations at the plant over the next few months and that means about 200 workers will be out of a job.Company officials said the decision was very hard to make, especially after 31 years in business. They blame the struggling U.S. auto industry and other expenses for their troubles turning a profit.Setan Company still has about 15 facilities left around the world, but for Bedford County, the news is devastating to its economy."It's just been a very tough few days," said Bette Slayton with the Bedford County Development Association. "It's heart-breaking with everything they've done for the community."The company is working with the Rapid Response team to get employees as many benefits as possible. Another big concern is how to fill the plant and get new companies to come to the area. Setan has vowed to help in that aspect as well.
