High-Speed Internet Coming To Somerset County

Posted: 2:19 pm EDT September 12, 2008

Plans are in the works to bring high-speed Internet service to Somerset County.

Friday, the Technology Council of Central Pennsylvania recognized efforts of the county commissioners and the county Chamber of Commerce with a $5,000 check for broadband Internet.

The project, which is being financed by the state, is still in its early phases and requests for proposals are currently out to vendors.

County commissioners said the project is important to the county's infrastructure.

"This is a key piece of infrastructure that we need to make sure and develop here for our county and our businesses and our children (and) our education system," said Commissioner Jim Marker.

Providers are slated to return their proposals by Sept. 26. Stay with WJAC-TV News and WJACTV.com for continuing coverage.
