An Elk County firm that advises people on how to avoid mortgage foreclosure is being sued by the state of Illinois.Aeroworks LCC is being sued by Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan, who contends the company promised to keep people in their homes but instead took their money without any results.Earlier this year, Aeroworks representatives told WJAC-TV News about their "Stop Foreclosure Now" DVD, which they said gave homeowners tools to avoid losing their home. Madigan contends Aeroworks charged homeowners more than $1,000 for counseling and home rescue services that were rarely successful. The lawsuit is part of the attorney general's campaign against mortgage fraud and deceptive business practices. Aeroworks is one of 15 companies she has sued for deceptive business practices. She said Aeroworks sent out more than 1,000 mailings a week to homeowners in the state offering assistance in keeping their homes and urging them to avoid dishonest scams. Madigan said she wants Aeroworks mortgage rescue service to be shut down and the company fined thousands of dollars.Wednesday, Aeroworks officials said the lawsuit has no merit and claim they've helped many people keep their homes.
