Richardsville Residents Look Toward Social Center's 50th Anniversary

Saturday, October 4, 2008 – updated: 9:43 pm EDT October 4, 2008

Just a few miles outside of Brookville, in Jefferson County, is the small community of Richardsville.

The community includes several houses, a couple churches and one large building.

That building was once the community's school but it shut down in the late-1950s.

The community quickly found a new use for the building as a social center.

For the last 50 years, they've kept the center running, using it for events ranging from yard sales to school reunions.

Members of the community are now looking toward the center's 50th anniversary.

They're raising money to put a new roof on the building so that a new generation of residents can enjoy the social center.

On Monday, the center will raffle off a used car at a special dinner.

Money from raffle ticket sales will go to maintain the building.
