Governor Sarah Palin Reaches Out To People In The Alleghenies

Saturday, October 11, 2008 – updated: 9:45 am EDT October 14, 2008

"Looks like we have a lot of Chiefs hockey fans in this arena where I believe slapshot was filmed. I have to believe we got a strong showing of hockey moms for McCain," said Gov. Palin as she ignited a jam-packed War Memorial.

Palin created a hockey mom craze across the nation, one real hockey mom from Johnstown said she takes Palin's message to heart because Palin lives a normal life and has the experience to be in the White House.

"Taking all of those things and being a mom and having all those ideals also makes a good combination," said Patty Oberst of Johnstown.

It's not just hockey moms though, parents who have children with special needs, like the Miller's from Centre County, also feel a special connection with the governor. Palin always has her family by her side. On Saturday, daughters Piper and Willow, and baby boy Trig took center stage as their mom promised to fight for other families.

Palin told a packed crowd, "When we hold Trig and we care for him, we don't feel scared anymore; we feel blessed."

"You don't know the feeling until you're with a child with special needs and she's such a blessing, like Gov. Palin said, it's unbelievable, but there's challenges with it," said Luke Miller.

Jamie Miller said, "There's no other candidate that could ever come close to being able to represent her and make sure she has a good future."
