85-year-old Johnstown Woman Murdered

The body of an 85-year-old Johnstown woman was found in a remote area in Fairfield Township, Westmoreland County about 24 hours after she was reported missing.

Police were first called to Anna Phillips home along Menoher Boulevard Saturday evening. About 24 hours later, police found her body covered by leaves and brush in the woods just off of Route 271.

An autopsy revealed today, Phillips was strangled. Police say the suspect is possibly a family member, and that an individual is in custody out of state.

Neighbors tell WJAC TV News, they haven't seen or heard from the widow in weeks. They say her adult son moved in with her over the summer. Frederick Phillips Junior was on parole and has a criminal record. Police say he stabbed a woman, who lives down the road with scissors in the 1980's. He was also jailed in Ohio on assault, burglary and kidnapping charges.
