Bishop Expected To Announce Closure Of Four Catholic Churches

Posted: 1:34 pm EST December 2, 2008Updated: 2:34 pm EST December 2, 2008

Some parishioners in the Altoona-Johnstown Diocese are expected to learn the fate of their churches Tuesday night.

Bishop Joseph Adamec is expected to announce plans for consolidating five parishes in Johnstown’s Cambria City section into one parish.

The move would mean that four of the historic churches will close for good.

Some community members said the transition will be a difficult one for all church members affected.

"I know we are going to see the sadness in them,” said Erma Folta, of Our Sons Family Restaurant. “It's hard to come together when you've been in your own church so long.”

The announcement is scheduled to take place at the St. John Gualbert Activities Center at 8 p.m. Stay with WJACTV.com and WJAC-TV News for continuing coverage as details become available.
