STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- The image of Penn State Coach Joe Paterno outside of Beaver Stadium is one not often seen – one without his signature dark-rimmed glasses.Sometime over the weekend, a campus patrolman noticed the statue’s glasses were missing.Officials said they believe the glasses were stolen sometime between Friday morning and Saturday morning. The statue was built to honor Paterno’s contributions to the university and his becoming the NCAA Division I-A all-time victories leader with 324 wins. The bronze sculpture was created by Angelo DiMaria, of Bush Designs in Reading, Pa., and took nearly three months to complete. It is about 7 feet tall and weighs nearly 1,000 pounds. On the walls surrounding the statue are plaques commemorating the results of each of the 421 games since Paterno became head coach in 1966.
