Visitors Comment On Flight 93 Memorial, Economy

People visiting the Flight 93 Memorial said they have mixed feelings about the cost of the Flight 93 Memorial and the state of the economy.

While everyone at the site told WJACTV.com they would like to see the new design complete, some question the price tag.

"Sixty million dollars can go to a lot of good," said Douglas Vardon of Ohio. "Maybe this is just too soon, too quick. Maybe the 25-year anniversary, or 30, 40, 50 might be more appropriate."

Others disagree, like Andy Thompson of Florida.

"I think it's worth every dime,"Thompson said. "These people did a wonderful thing. It's important we don't forget them."

The temporary memorial was set up quickly after the crash on September 11, 2001. Forty people died.

On Friday, lawmakers, family members of Flight 93 victims and others met to sign a letter of commitment.

It outlines all of the benchmarks to make sure the permanent national memorial opens on the 10th anniversary of 9/11.

Family members of Flight 93 victims will lobby in Washington during the first week of March. They're hoping to break ground in the fall.
