Police Say Son Stabbed Elderly Parents In Clearfield County

Posted: 1:39 pm EDT March 16, 2009Updated: 2:28 pm EDT March 16, 2009

A man was arrested after police said he attacked his elderly parents with a knife in Clearfield County.

The stabbing happened around 9 p.m. Sunday.

Police said when they arrived at the home on Treasure Lake, Michael Lanigan was still stabbing his mother, Olivette Fogg, and her husband, Jim Fogg.

The Foggs were airlifted by medical helicopter from the Treasure Lake Soccer Fields to Altoona Regional Hospital.

Jim Fogg was listed in critical condition Monday and Olivette Fogg was listed in serious condition.

Police said they were called by Olivette Fogg, who told them she and her husband had locked themselves in the bathroom after being stabbed by her son.

About six minutes later, emergency crews arrived at the home. They said Lanigan dropped the utility knife when police got to the scene and was taken into custody.

People who live nearby said they couldn't believe the news.

"It's shocking when it happens so close to home. It's a great community. We used to live right down the street from where this happened, so it just amazes me that something like that can happen so close," said Tracie Cockrell.
