Record Crowd Expected For Central PA 4th Fest

Posted: 10:08 am EDT July 2, 2009

It's rated as one of the best fireworks shows in the county, and on Thursday Central PA 4th Fest organizers in State College were putting the finishing touches on this year's extravaganza.

The event is the largest all-volunteer fireworks show in the nation. To date, 640 volunteers have put in 7,000 hours to get the event rolling.

This year, organizers said they expect record attendance because the show is on a Saturday night and the weather is expected to be good.

Before the fireworks, a full day of activities is planned near Beaver Stadium. The fireworks show begins at dusk and is expected to be spectacular. Crews will fire 83 shells a second during the grand finale.
