JOHNSTOWN, Pa. -- WJACTV.com has confirmed Richard Ianieri, a Pennsylvania military contractor with multiple connections to Johnstown Democratic Rep. John Murtha, will plead guilty to a federal corruption charge.According to federal records obtained late Wednesday, Ianieri has formally notified prosecutors and court officials that he will plead guilty and allow his case to be transferred to a U.S. District Court in Florida, which is reviewing a connected corruption case. Margaret Philben, spokeswoman for the U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Pennsylvania, confirmed the news to our Scott MacFarlane.Court files indicate Ianieri could face a maximum of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.Ianieri, a Doylestown, Pa. businessman who once operated Coherent Systems International, has been a major donor to Murtha. He’s also benefited from a set of large, multi-million dollar federal military contracts. According to a Wednesday edition of The Hill newspaper, “Murtha has directed millions of dollars in earmarks toward Coherent.”This week, Ianieri was accused by federal prosecutors in Pittsburgh of accepting illegal kickbacks from a separate business, with whom he agreed to share his lucrative federal contracts. Our Scott MacFarlane confirmed multiple ties between Ianieri and Murtha. Ianieri previously used a Maryland lobbying firm which once employed Murtha’s brother. Ianieri’s former business was taken over by a Virginia company which employed a former Murtha staffer.Coherent Systems International has also partnered with Windber, Pa.-based Kuchera Systems in federal projects, according to a news release from Murtha’s office. Federal agents, under the oversight of the same federal prosecutors in Pittsburgh, recently raided the Kuchera businesses.Neither Kuchera nor Murtha are named in the recent criminal information document filed by prosecutors against Ianieri. An attorney for Kuchera declined our requests for comment.Ianieri has made more than $10,000 in donations to Murtha’s campaign. When asked if Murtha intended to return the donations, a spokesman told WJACTV.com, “Mr. Murtha has always said that if a campaign donation was found to be illegal he would give that donation to charity.” Ianieri has also donated to the campaigns of Somerset Republican Rep. Bill Shuster and U.S. Sen. Bob Casey. Spokespeople for Shuster and Casey declined to comment on whether those donations would be returned.Stay with WJAC-TV on air and online for continuing coverage.
