Penn State Plans To Raise Tuition

Posted: 4:44 pm EDT July 10, 2009Updated: 6:32 pm EDT July 10, 2009

As the state budget negotiations linger, Penn State University says it's faced with the possibility of cutting jobs and raising tuition.

On Friday, Penn State's board of trustees approved two plans to raise tuition. It all depends on which budget plan is approved.

If Penn State doesn't receive federal stimulus money, the tuition will jump nearly 10 percent, or $640 per semester. But if that money is put back in the budget plan, tuition will only go up $295.

The lower tuition rate also requires the budget to be in place by July 17.
