Land Negotiations Nearly Complete For Flight 93 Memorial
Land negotiations for the Flight 93 Memorial are 70 percent complete. That's according to Joanne Hanley, an advisory commission member for the memorial.Organizers say they have about five out of seven parcels that they need to move forward with the memorial.A few months ago they had 60 acres, now they have 1030.Recently, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar said he wanted the National Park Service to have all the land by July 31. If not, the government could step in and take the land by eminent domain. Patrick White, another member of the advisory commission said it may still be possible.Officials are expecting details to be ironed out this week.Construction for the $58 million national memorial is scheduled to start in November.Solicitation for the project will start Aug. 17. If all goes well, a contract will be awarded Nov. 6.
