Police Make 57 Arrests At Penn State Altoona
Logan Township police have been keeping a close eye on the students living off campus at Penn State Altoona.Police Chief Ron Heller said officers have arrested 57 students since the start of school. It's a dramatic increase from last year when officers made three arrests during the same time frame. The issue stems from the recent housing debates in the township.Heller said residents have also been more vigilant in calls.Director of University Relations Shari Routch said the university is aware of the arrests. She said the staff will work with students if they need help, to avoid being repeat offenders.Neighbors said they're happy with the increase in patrols.Heller has filed charges with Magisterial District Judge Steve Jackson's office. He said students may face up to $300 in fines.
