Centre County District Attorney Unseated

The incumbent Centre County district attorney lost his bid for reelection Tuesday by a wide margin, according to unofficial results.

With 82 percent of precincts reporting, Republican incumbent Michael Madeira had 35 percent of the votes and Democratic challenger Stacy Parks-Miller had 65 percent of vote.

As soon as elections officials began counting the votes, Parks-Miller had a sizable lead over Madeira and it increased as more precincts reported. Parks-Miller said even she was surprised by the votes.

Madeira campaigned on his role in making the community safer, but missteps during his one-term tenure as the county's top prosecutor because a major campaign issue.

Voter turnout in Centre County was close to 25 percent.
