Local Programs Help Soldiers Combat Stress

Posted: 3:11 pm EST November 6, 2009Updated: 11:18 pm EST November 6, 2009

The Fort Hood, Texas, shootings have caught national attention, but there are programs for soldiers who battle issues when it comes to fighting for our country.

Director Tom Caulfield of the Veterans Leadership Program/Veterans Community Initiatives has been reaching out to the community for years.

Caulfield said in order to battle the mental and physical issues these soldiers endure we must look to the members of the community for support.

His program at the Hiram G. Andrews Center teaches just that and it involves everyone including friends, family and the soldiers themselves.

If you want to find out more call 814-255-7209.

Also the Memorial Medical Center teamed up with Washington and Jefferson College and Clemson University is conducting a survey to help determine the level of awareness in the community when it comes to soldiers combatting stress.

They want as many people as possible to get involved. If you want to fill out a questionnaire go to Http://www.conemaugh.org/ and click on "help our troops."
