Coopersdale Bridge Opens To Public

Posted: 3:35 pm EST November 21, 2009Updated: 2:19 pm EST November 22, 2009

It was out with the old and in with the new on Saturday as the brand new $10.2 million Coopersdale Bridge opened to the traveling public.

State Transportation Commissioner Ed Cernic told WJAC this bridge is a vital link to the community from Route 22 to Route 403. And it's the route most tractor trailers take to the mills.

It took eight months to get to this point, but the bridge still won't be finished until August.

The Army Corps of Engineers will soon demolish the old bridge.

Cernic said two more bridges went out to bid, including one in Conemaugh Township and one by the War Memorial in Johnstown.
