JOHNSTOWN, Pa. -- While you are sitting at home around the table enjoying a Thanksgiving feast there are others who aren't as fortunate.

Family Kitchen in Johnstown has been around for 16 years and with the help of volunteers they've served the needy from all over the Alleghenies.

Volunteer David Charkins said Johnstown is an extremely outgoing community and we seem to never be short on volunteers from companies putting in floors, painting walls to volunteers giving up there holidays to dish out food.

The Family Kitchen saw almost 200 people on Thanksgiving and unfortunately they've seen an increased number of new faces needing help due to the economy.

On the brighter side volunteers continue to lend a hand, old young and everyone in between.

Savannah Benko, 8, said, "This is actually her first time volunteering and it’s exciting."

While Benko and her mother were visiting a relative for the holiday they took the time out to help out at the Family Kitchen.

The volunteers were all more than happy to take the time out to serve food, because they’re thankful for what they do have.

Benko said, "I'm thankful I have a house and that these people get to eat."

Charkins said we just have to be thankful for what we have and that there are places like this that try and help where we can.
