Planet Ice Sold; Under New Management

The uncertainty of Planet Ice's future had many avid skaters and hockey players on edge, but on Friday, the Cambria County ice rink was sold.CNB Bank bought the Planet Ice property for nearly $600,000 during a sheriff's sale in Ebensburg. The facility is will be managed by East Hills Commons, Mihalko's General Contracting and Johnstown Construction.Managers Lou Mihalko and Jim Vasilko said they have been looking into the rink for quite some time and said they have big plans for the facility."Family and people in the area will be pleasantly surprised it's not going to be the same old, same old. It's going to be new and exciting," Mihalko said.The management team will lease the rink but plans to eventually buy it. For now, they are working toward getting the facility's staff back to work.Vasilko said, "It's an important part of the community not only for hockey, but for public skating, for something to do and figure skating."Planet Ice was open on Friday and, in the near future, the facility will have a new name.Stay with WJACTV.com and WJAC-TV News for continuing coverage.
