PHILIPSBURG, Pa. -- Recent rain and snow melt are being blamed for ongoing flooding issues in Philipsburg and Rush Township Tuesday.Despite other regions across the Alleghenies drying out, several small streams are still flooded over their banks in Philipsburg.Saturday evening, Eric Bordas discovered that a foot of runoff water had seeped into the basement of his North Second Street home.Floodwaters caused thousands of dollars of damage in Bordas’ home, partially submerging a brand new furnace and water heater.“This weekend was atrocious,” said Bordas. “I got hit with the worst water I’ve ever seen. It actually split my foundation and came pouring in. I had three pumps running to help get rid of the water.”Bordas said that runoff water never seeped into his basement until Philipsburg borough officials capped off a sanitary sewer line that runs under his home nearly two years ago.Philipsburg Borough Manager Jan McDonald told WJAC-TV Tuesday that he received letters from the home’s previous owners about flooding problems years ago, saying it’s an ongoing problem.McDonald said the borough engineer is expected to complete a feasibility study that will provide possible fixes for Philipsburg’s runoff water problems next week.
