Blair County -- The 20-year-old Altoona woman charged with rape for having a child with a 14-year-old boy turned herself into police Friday.

Last October, Amber Holland, of Altoona, gave birth to the 14-year-old boy's baby at Altoona Hospital. According to police, the boy's mother confronted her son about the relationship, then decided to allow it to continue after she talked with her son about safe sex and parenting responsibilities.

Police say the pair had sex at several locations throughout Altoona, including Holland's current 7th Avenue home. They say the relationship started when Holland was 18, and the boy was 12.

According to Blair County District Attorney, Dave Gorman, there were some big clues that led officials to realize something was wrong with the situation.

"Because of the birth of the child at the hospital, because the boy was listed as the father and the age of the boy was on the birth certificate, I'm assuming by some nature that the Altoona Hospital notified Children and Youth Services and then Children and Youth Services took the appropriate action," Gorman said.

Holland faces several charges, including child rape. The boy's mother also faces a charge of endangering her child because she allowed the relationship to continue.
