New Invention
Could Create Hundreds Of Jobs

-- There's a new invention created in Johnstown to protect your loved ones serving overseas. It was introduced at the Showcase for Commerce Friday and if there's the anticipated demand, 300 new jobs could come to Cambria County.
Its called the Ballistic Gauntlet. Servicemen and women will wear it to protect themselves from fragments, shrapnel, or flames that could come through their vehicle, destroying their legs or feet if it isn't on them.
Congressman John Murtha says, "You want to do everything we can to protect that so I hope this will make a difference."
The ballistic gauntlet, created by ex-marine Scott Burk, who now works for Concurrent Technologies, is no stranger to battle.
Scott says, "There have been a number of lower body, lower extremity injuries to our troops in Iraq. So we wanted to develop something quickly that could address that situation."
The military driver wears the 40 pounds of gear that can be thrown off in an instant. It's being tested in the U.S. and overseas right now but so far,
"It exceeded our original expectations by about 30 percent."
In several tests it completely protected the test dummy. All profits from the gauntlet will go to a foundation for servicemen and woman already injured.
