Gas Prices May Rise Again

Posted: 10:29 p.m. EDT September 19, 2005

U.S. light crude oil surged more than four dollars Monday, the biggest one-day price jump in history. Gasoline futures soared 14 percent. All this because Tropical Storm Rita moved toward the oil production platforms in the Gulf and OPEC leaders voiced resistance to increasing crude output.

After seeing what Hurricane Katrina did, Chevron Corp. and Shell started to evacuate employees from offshore oil and gas drilling platforms.

Some people in our area made sure they filled up their tanks tonight just in case, however not all are worried.

"I don't think it's gonna hit. Its going to pass through and the prices will keep going down. It won't go up," says gas station owner B Patel.

Patel's manager thinks otherwise.

"I think the gas prices are gonna go up cause last time when a hurricane hit, the gas prices went up," says Kayla Anderson.

At this point, it is still too early to tell where this tropical storm or hurricane will hit. Regardless, it's too close for comfort for those already ravaged by Katrina and for those people putting gas in their cars.
