D-Day For Laurel Crest

Monday, January 2, 2006

Cambria County Commissioner Bill Harris tells us the plan of action Laurel Crest was supposed to hand in Monday, was completed several days ago. Now, it's up to the State to decide what they will do.

Last month a patient died at Laurel Crest after being given too much morphine. The State came in and found deficiencies in quality of care, pharmacy services, administration, and clinical records.

Harris said he doesn't know when the State will respond to Laurel Crest's plan of action. He says the State could give the nursing home a provisional license, which he says means Laurel Crest will be under close inspection of the State. He says no matter what, residents there do not have anything to worry about, especially now.

"Everybody's watching, the administration, the employees, commissioners, the state officials, everyone's watching so. I can't think of a better time to be living there and receiving care than right now," says Harris.

Harris says he believes the administration and employees of Laurel Crest meet and exceed the expectations of the State.
