Swann In Blair County

Posted: 7:51 pm EST January 5, 2006

Lynn Swann is counting on his name recognition to keep him ahead in the polls. He has been working over the past year to raise enough money to run against incumbent Ed Rendell for the governor's seat. For months it has been rumored that Swann was interested in running for Pennsylvania governor but he could never confirm that because of his contract with ABC sports. That contract ended a few days ago and Wednesday night Swann announced his candidacy in Pittsburgh. Thursday afternoon, he visited a paper plant in Roaring Spring and then students at Hollidaysburg high school. Throughout the day he answered questions about his NFL career and what he would bring to the table if elected. And when Channel 6 News asked him about his feelings on Governor Rendell's job in office, Swann had plenty to say, especially on Act 72 and property tax reform.

"How can you ask people to except an idea that you are shoving down their throat. To me that isn't leadership. That isn't listening. That's dictating," says Swann. "We are trying to put a band-aid on a system that no longer works. It's time to make a change."

Swann also compared this election to a football game, saying he knows how to compete and win because of his hard work ethic and his outstanding team. And in a recent poll, the public seems to be urging him on by making him a front runner for the republican nomination.
