Accused Dognapper To Appear In Court

An area woman who drew national attention after taking a dog from a Blair County couple was scheduled to appear in court Thursday.Tammy Grimes said she did take the German shepherd over a week ago, but said she did it to save the 19-year-old dog's life.Outside of the Blair County Courthouse Thursday, there was a show of support for Grimes.More than 50 people came to the steps of the courthouse in her support, some from as far away as Maryland, Ohio and Utah.Some who were there said authorities should charge the dog's former owners, not Grimes.Lynne Gillis, one of Grimes' supporters, said, "I'm here to support Tammy because she did what any humane person would do. My question is: 'Was the dog being abused?' and I've gotten no answer but 'yes.' "Grimes is charged with four misdemeanors including theft, receiving stolen property, criminal mischief and criminal trespassing.
