FRANKSTOWN TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- The Hollidaysburg Area School District placed one of its elementary schools on lockdown Thursday afternoon after a possibly armed person was in the area, according to the district's Facebook page.

District officials said Frankstown Elementary was on a "community lockdown" and everyone "is safe and no one is in danger."

"We were notified of a possible threat of an armed individual in the Hollidaysburg Sportsman area. As a precaution we went into community lockdown," the statement said.

The district said due to the incident, bus routes in the East Loop Area may have limited access. The bus will go to the Geeseytown Fire Hall and students remaining on the bus will be taken back to Frankstown Elementary.

Parents can pick up their children at the Geeseytown Fire Hall or at Frankstown Elementary, the district said. Anyone with questions or concerns may contact the school at 814-695-8702.

The Altoona Mirror reported state police were searching for a man who threatened to harm himself and ran into nearby woods with a weapon.
