FRANKSTOWN TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- Pennsylvania State Police began a searching for a man possibly armed with a gun and threatening to harm himself Thursday afternoon.

The search caused Hollidaysburg Area School District to put one of its elementary schools on lockdown.

District officials said on their Facebook page that Frankstown Elementary was on a "community lockdown" and everyone "is safe and no one is in danger."

"We were notified of a possible threat of an armed individual in the Hollidaysburg Sportsman area. As a precaution we went into community lockdown," the statement said.

Several roads were shut down Thursday, blocking residents and buses from accessing the area.

"We've been shopping all day. We've been out of the house since 11 this morning running errands and when we went to go home, three roads in and we couldn't get in," said Marge McMasters.

State police said East Loop Road is closed from Locke Mountain Road to Sand Bank Road.

Buses took students to the Geeseytown Fire Hall so parents could pick their child up.

Residents unable to return home were directed to the fire hall for shelter.

"They'll stay here until we get the all clear, then we can send the people home," said Blair County EMA Director Dan Boyles.

Pastor Elizabeth Hess told 6 News the situation reminded her of an incident from December 2012 when gunman Jeffery Lee Michaels killed three people before troopers shot and killed him.

"It's a little unnerving, especially with what happened two years ago," Hess said.

Anyone with information relating to this incident is asked to contact state police in Hollidaysburg at 814-696-6100.
