TYRONE, Pa. -- Officials at Tyrone Hospital in Blair County are planning some big changes for the health care provider, including more collaboration with specialists and a bigger emergency room.

Hospital officials made the announcements Tuesday. The hospital announced the creating of the Tyrone Regional Health Network, which includes increased cooperation between local health care providers and independent groups and affiliates throughout the area.

The hospital also announced plans for an expansion of their emergency department, which includes a 3,800-square foot addition.

Hospital CEO Stephen Gildea said the expansion will double their ER department and is a project the will provide better care and access to patients throughout the Tyrone area.

"We're bringing more services to the northern Blair County region that provides access for the communities up in this part of the county and this part of the region to come to Tyrone for their health care services," Gildea said.

The project also includes a new radiology department and orthopedic center with in-patient rooms. The expansion project is expected to top $20 million.
