JOHNSTOWN, Pa.-- A Johnstown woman is helping to give people another chance to turn their lives around in the name of her son.
LaVerne Sale-Young's son, David Sale Jr., died five years ago after three men killed him outside a Philadelphia Phillies game.
"It'll be five years that he's been gone and I decided a couple of months ago to quit wasting my energy and my time in being angry," Young said.
Young has channeled her energy into helping the Johnstown Basketball League.
The league is made up of several men from the Johnstown area, who may not have a place to be active in a positive way.
"Can I let go of what I was feeling back then? I have to. Because there are too many young men out here, that might be one of those three men. And if I can do anything to give them a different path to go down, I'm willing to do it," Young said.
The Johnstown Basketball league's tournament will be held Friday at 6 p.m. at the basketball courts in Johnstown's Prospect neighborhood.
Activities and entertainment will be provided before, during and after the games for the whole family.
