UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The ice floor was installed at the new Pegula Ice Arena on Penn State University’s campus this week.
The official opening of the new hockey facility is scheduled for less than a month from now when the Nittany Lions host their first game on October 11.
The work is nearly complete. Joe Battista, Penn State’s director of hockey operations, said he is expecting building inspectors to issue an occupancy permit this week.
The ice floor is still growing and hasn’t had a lot of people on it yet.
“We went on the ice briefly to do some publicity shots,” Battista said. “No one has skated on it since it’s been built up to the inch and a half.”
Within a few weeks, public tours will be held to show off the facility.
According to the university, the arena is approximately 200,000-square feet and will have 6,000 seats.
