Johnstown police said they have three men in custody and another arrest pending following a drug bust at a Johnstown motel, a motel police said they're all too familiar with.
Police said drug busts at the Towne Manor Motel are not uncommon. They said it's a place that's attracted out of town criminals for years. But it's also a place they've been keeping their eyes on.
Johnstown police said they were tipped off about suspicious activity at the Towne Manor Motel on Friday and when they went to check it out, they said they caught the end of a drug deal.
Police arrested Samuel Cade in a back parking lot after finding heroin his pocket and Roger Grant after finding a stolen handgun in his jacket.
When police went inside the building they said they found dozens of empty heroin bags under a mattress in a motel room and a bag of cocaine floating in a toilet. They said they also found David Capaldi in that room and arrested him for selling the drugs.
"We don't believe they were there long, a couple of days maybe, but it was definitely an active location," said Johnstown Police Chief Craig Foust.
It's not the first time the motel has been in the headlines. It's been a hot spot in the city with numerous attempted robberies and drug deals.
"That location is a location that is known to us where individuals come from out of town and set up drug activity," said Foust. "It is on our radar screen."
6 News stopped by the motel on Monday. The owner wasn't there, but the woman working at the front desk said the motel's bad reputation isn't a secret. She blamed it on
the clientele and employees. She also told 6 News it's been a concern of hers, but said there's nothing she can do.
"It appears that there's not a lot of concern from the actual owner," said Foust. "The employees at that location expressed concern for their safety and well being from some of the activities going on at that location, so that's something we'll be following up on also."
6 News tried to track down the owner of the motel Monday, but he lives in Mechanicsburg with an unlisted number.
Cade, Grant and Capaldi are in jail and police said they expect to make at least one more arrest.
