UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- There have been several reports that Vanderbilt University football coach James Franklin is to be named head coach of the Nittany Lions.
Several people have written letters to the board of trustees, raising questions about the top candidate.
According to news sources, the hiring of James Franklin as the new Nittany Lion football coach is a done deal.
Most in the State College area are excited, but there are also questions stemming from a rape investigation involving members of the football team and the degree of Franklins involvement.
Friday morning Penn State English professor David Passmore wrote a letter to Penn State administrators and trustees, expressing his hope that they have done their homework in investigating Franklin.
"We need to vet this process and show how Penn State addressed the allegations," said Passmore.
Penn States tie to the Sandusky scandal are already a national media topic; now hiring a coach with allegations tied to another sexual assault case is not a step in the right direction.
Franklin has been cleared of any wrongdoing by prosecutors.
Passmore said it is essential for doubt to be removed.
To ensure to everybody that Penn State remains in a safe community.
Passmore stressed his comments are his own and do not necessarily represent the opinions of any other people or groups at Penn State.
Passmore said he has not received a response from Penn State administrators or trustees.
