PETERSBURG, Pa. -- Hundreds of hungry visitors brought their appetite to the 2014 Maple Harvest Festival at Shaver's Creek Environmental Center in Huntingdon County. The crowd favorite: The all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast.

"They've been splendid, I've probably had like 20 of them," Paul Ervolina said.

"I am currently working on 14, 15, 16 and 17 right now," Ben Jumonville said.

Though the hot cakes are the fan favorite, the festival's mission is not just about tasting food. The mission is to educate people about the process of making maple syrup, how it gets from the tree to the table and this syrup is coming from a Pennsylvania farm.

"The syrup is really, really good. It was very sweet and very light," Cassandra DeVito said.

After cleaning their plates, visitors were invited to walk off their carb coma by visiting different stations throughout the center. Each station demonstrated just how the ooey-gooey stuff is made.

Program Director Laurie McLaughlin said 150 volunteers work to make 10,000 pancakes over the course of the weekend to feed festival visitors.
