Crews battle late night fire in Somerset Co.

MEYERSDALE, Pa. -- Crews were called to the 100 block of Center Street in Meyersdale, Somerset County for a late night fire.

Crews said they were called to the area around 10:30 p.m. to the building formerly known as Slammerz.

Somerset County dispatch told 6 News one person was transported to the Meyersdale hospital and fire crews confirmed that person was a firefighter.

The fully engulfed structure was believed to be vacant and the cause of the blaze is unknown.

The fire marshal was called to the scene.

Penelec was also called to the scene.

The buildings on both sides of the 'Slammerz' building suffered smoke and water damage. 

Crews were still on scene controlling hot spots eight hours after the fire was first called in. 

Crews were forced to demolish the building leaving only rubble behind.
