103rd Soldier Speaks

Johnstown —

Sergeant Drew Mangus is still unpacking Tuesday from his trip to Fort Bliss. Hes one of the soldiers from the 103rd Armored Battalion in Johnstown. He found time to sit down with Channel 6 News and talk about the last 2 and a half months.

Mangus says, "It's nice to be home. It was hard to leave. But it's good to be home."

Mangus is one of roughly 70 soldiers unpacking his gear. Problems with the Military and orders in Fort Bliss, Texas angered many of them. It caused many of them to decide to come home.

Mangus says, "No there wasn't a lot of reconciliation. Just simply due to the fact they've got a mission to do and they're doing it."

Military and government officials from Pennsylvania did address their concerns.

Mangus says, If there would be an investigation, it wouldn't be put out, punishments or who it was. That's just not the way things are done. So we kind of had to accept that."

Now they move on. But they have to be ready and waiting for the next time the military calls Mangus and the others back for service.

Mangus says, "Still wanna go. Still interested in going. Still have opportunity to go. Just had to do what was right for me."

Not everyone from the 103rd is back from Fort Bliss. Many didn't have the options Mangus and the others did. About 150 soldiers from the 103rd are still in Texas. They are expected to be sent over to Iraq soon.

Mangus tells Channel 6 News, "The fact that Pennsylvania is there and these guys and girls are there. It's gonna be undeniable. They're gonna do such a fantastic job and make such a big statement. Everybody should be very proud.
