12-Year-Old Cambria County Girl Collecting Shoes For Needy

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. —

A Cambria County girl is making a difference in the Alleghenies one foot at a time.

Savannah Fuchs, 12, of Johnstown, is collecting shoes to help people in need. She put up a collection bin at her church -- Beulah United Methodist -- asking people to donate their gently worn footwear.

"My brother Travis -- he's 8 -- he came home one day and asked my mom if we could do this project collecting shoes," Fuchs said.

The project is now part of her Leadership Award for Girl Scouts. She will dontate the shoes to a clothing drive at the Dale Fire Hall this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. where there will be free clothes and shoes for children, teens and adults who need them.
