Due to the extremely high temperatures, Aging Services Inc. in Indiana County will have two cooling centers available on Saturday.

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for much of the WJAC-TV viewing area.

The cooling centers will be at the Chestnut Hills Social Center in Blairsville and the Two Lick Valley Social Center in Clymer. The centers will be open on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

No transportation to or from the centers will be provided.

For more information, call the Chestnut Hills Center at 724-459-5251 or the Two Lick Valley Social Center at 724-254-9820.

The Weather Service said record-breaking heat can be expected Friday and Saturday. The long duration of this heat wave will make it particularly dangerous due to the cumulative effects of exposure to the heat.

A heat advisory means that a period of hot temperatures is expected. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible.

Heat stroke is an emergency. If you suspect you or someone else is suffering from heat stroke, call 911.

Elderly and young children are especially susceptible to the effects of the heat and should take extra precautions. Heat stroke heat exhaustion and other heat related illnesses will be possible especially if people spend a significant amount of time outdoors.
People still without power due to the recent widespread storms will be more susceptible to the heat.

The Weather Service said people should drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned area, stay out of the sun, and check in on relatives and neighbors. People should take extra precautions if they work or spend time outside. When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening.
