2 Found Dead In Somerset Co. Hotel

SOMERSET, Pa. —

Somerset County authorities are investigating after two people who were found dead in a hotel room may have died in an apparent murder-suicide.

The bodies were found Wednesday at the Days Inn Somerset just off the Pennsylvania Turnpike around noon Wednesday. Somerset Police Chief Randy Cox said authorities weren't pursuing any suspects and said he was awaiting autopsy results.

Preliminarily, Cox said police believe that the two victims -- 42-year-old Paul D. Linhart, of Marlton, N.J. and 39-year-old Amy H. Estes, of Indianapolis -- arrived at the hotel at different times and in different vehicles Monday afternoon. Police said they believe that the Somerset location was chosen for its convenience to both people as neither was from Pennsylvania.

Police are still investigating the circumstances that resulted in the deaths, but confirmed both Linhart and Estes died of gunshot wounds.

According to a news release from Somerset police, hotel employees went into the room after the occupants had failed to leave at check-out time. After entering, a Days Inn worker discovered what appeared to be a person dead in the bed. The worker immediately left, secured the room and called 911.

When the officers and EMS entered the room, they found Estes dead in the bed and Linhart dead on the floor.

Somerset borough police detectives were assisted by detectives from the Pennsylvania State Police, Troop A, Somerset and the scene was processed by the Pennsylvania State Police Forensic Services Unit.
