PSU Board of Trustees candidates to be announced

By WJAC Web Staff

STATE COLLEGE, Pa —

Ever since the Jerry Sandusky sex scandal broke in November, Penn State’s Board of Trustees has been under fire.

Penn State supporters and Alumni have called for an overhaul of the board.

That shakeup could begin this afternoon.

The names of the candidates running for alumni seats of the Board of Trustees will be announced at 1:30pm.

The hopefuls include prominent businessmen, former athletes, and military veterans.

To be eligible for the election candidates had to receive 50 nominations from fellow alumni.

Those candidates are invited to attend today’s announcement at the Penn Stater Conference Center Hotel that will determine the order in which their names will appear on the ballot.

One of the prominent names on the ballot is expected to be former football player Adam Taliaferro.

He overcame a spinal cord injury suffered his freshman year.

In an interview last month, Taliaferro said his decision to run was, in part, to honor Joe Paterno.

Anthony Lubrano, a major donor to the University is also receiving strong supporter.

In an exclusive interview, Franco Harris told 6 News he’d like to see the entire board removed, but in this election on three seats are up for grabs.

Franco like many Penn State Alumni is still upset over the firing of Joe Paterno.

Once the candidates' ballot positions are formalized, online voting will be open to alumni from April 10 through  May 3.
