Address Changes Create Confusion

ALTOONA, Pa. —

About 800 Blair County residents are trying to get comfortable with their new addresses. It's phase one of 911's effort to make it easier for the county's dispatchers, but it's creating some confusion for the folks who are supposed to know exactly where they're going all the time.

The Logan Township Police Department is trying to figure out which street in Lakemont is which.

Logan Township Police Chief Ron Heller said they haven't had any major issues with the address changes in Lakemont yet, but they're trying to do everything they can to avoid any headaches. They're using cheat sheets, like maps and lists, that are labeled with the old street names and the new ones.

The officers are also getting a lot of help from the folks at 911 until the new street signs are up.

Heller said since other police departments in Blair County will soon be dealing with similar changes, perhaps Logan Township will even be able to show them the ropes.

Some Lakemont residents who have lived at the same addresses for decades said they know the new addresses are supposed to help 911, but they just don't understand it and they fear the mailman will be the most mixed up.
